The French Open is very popular among tennis fans because of many reasons. Among all of them, one should mention the fact that it seems to be the most physically demanding tournament in the world because it features five-set men’s singles matches without a tiebreak.
The first competition took place in 1891 and six years later women’s tournament was held too. Starting with 1912, the French tennis tournament was held on clay.
In 1968, this competition was the first Grand Slam tournament to go open, with both amateurs and professionals being allowed to participate.
